Measure the room, not the rug
A carpet that is nearly right is a carpet you stop seeing. Because we weave to your size rather than selling you what is in stock, this is the one decision worth spending ten minutes on.
The four sizes we make as standard

Four steps with a tape measure
1. Measure the whole room
Wall to wall, width and length, in centimetres. Write both down. Do not measure the gap between the furniture — the furniture will move; the room will not.
2. Leave a border of bare floor
Between 30 and 60 cm on every side. That margin is what makes a carpet read as a deliberate object rather than a failed fitted carpet. In a small room take the smaller figure, in a large one take the larger. A room 2.4 m by 3.0 m with a 40 cm border wants roughly 160 × 220 cm, so the 5 × 7 is the one.
3. Look at where the furniture stands
Sitting room. The front legs of every seat should sit on the carpet. All legs on is grander and needs a bigger piece; all legs off makes the room look like it is floating.
Dining room. Add 60 cm beyond the table on every side, so a chair pulled out still has its back legs on the carpet. Anything less and the chairs catch on the edge every evening.
Hall or landing. Leave at least 10 cm of floor on each side and keep it clear of the door’s swing.
Bedroom. Either a large piece with the bottom two thirds of the bed standing on it, or a 4 × 6 running down one side where your feet land.
4. Tape it out and sleep on it
Lay masking tape or sheets of newspaper on the floor at the size you have chosen and leave it there for a day. Everyone who does this changes their mind at least once, and it is considerably cheaper to change it now than after the loom is set.
What we need from you
Just the size, chosen on the product page. It is printed on the works ticket and it is what the loom is set to. Finished pieces are measured and may differ by up to two centimetres, as anything made by hand does.
